In NB, the impact of being a current daily smoker doubles the likelihood of being food insecure.

The NBATC utilized the research results from the UNB study (in partnership with the Department of Social Development) on Tobacco Use and Food Insecurity in New Brunswick  to create a video outlining the connection between tobacco use and food insecurity and how NB’s Tobacco-Free Living Strategy can support the work of stakeholders who work with these populations. This project is ongoing and will help to educate and bring awareness to these populations who have higher-than-average tobacco use rates. The video itself aims to promote cessation as a method of improving food insecurity and that addressing food insecurity issues for these populations will in turn, positively affect cessation outcomes promoting overall well-being.
