Mental Health Promotion Community of Practice
Smoke and Vape Free NB (SVFNB) is a member of the Mental Health Promotion Community of Practice (CoP) in order to bring attention to the link between tobacco use and mental health and be informed of the latest research and resources available on the topic.
The Mental Health Promotion Community of Practice brings together those interested in or working on mental health promotion in New Brunswick. Its mission is to build capacity for mental health promotion among its membership to advance its vision of creating supportive environments for positive mental health in New Brunswick. The CoP has the following three goals:
- to create a collective understanding on how to promote mental health;
- to share and enhance how mental health promotion is being implemented in various settings;
- to explore opportunities to collaborate in mental health promotion.

If you want to stop smoking, please call your nearest Smoking Cessation Clinic. A counselor will provide you with information and tips on giving up tobacco.
Health Coaches – Live Well / Bien Vivre
Live Well | Bien Vivre (LW|BV) is a Health Coaching program residing with Heart and Stroke Foundation New Brunswick and funded by the Government of New Brunswick. Free and accessible to anyone 19 and older, Health Coaches are present in various regions across the province working to support clients in the pursuit of their wellness goals, including tobacco and smoke-free living. Their unique approach guides clients through stages of change, while connecting participants with community resources and supporting self determination. Live Well | Bien Vivre wants to see New Brunswickers’ health and wellness thrive and is dedicated to having a positive impact on health outcomes to prevent chronic disease.
Leading Practices in Smoking Cessation for Persons Living with Mental Illnesses and/or Addictions – Canadian Partnership Against Cancer – 2019
Review results about Canadian smoking cessation programs for people living with mental illness(es) and/or addiction, now with data from 2018 to 2019. The next update for these results is planned for Spring 2020.
Mental Fitness – New Brunswick Department of Social Development
Mental fitness refers to a state of psychosocial well-being, it means having a positive sense of how we feel, think, and act, which improves our ability to enjoy life. New Brunswick’s Tobacco-Free Living Strategy and Mental Health
The New Brunswick Anti-Tobacco Coalition (NBATC) is pleased to provide a presentation on the relationship between New Brunswick’s Tobacco-Free Living Strategy 2019-2023 and mental health. The NBATC will be providing a series of webinars to present this Strategy to its stakeholders and partners showcasing additions and updates which reflects the current tobacco landscape, pinpoint specific goals and objectives that partners can work on to help achieve the Strategy’s vision of a tobacco and smoke-free province for all, and generate discussions to help participants better understand the Strategy and feel empowered to integrate it into their work plan.
Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation – University of Ottawa Heart Institute:
Clinical practice guidelines emphasize that clinicians and healthcare delivery systems should consistently identify and treat all tobacco users using available counselling treatments and medications. But, evidence alone is insufficient to change routine clinical practice. There is a need to alter practices so that smoking cessation support is systematically and easily provided to all patients who smoke as part of routine care. The Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC) was created to address this need.
